Boot over lan

Ok, not sure if I'm in the right place but here goes. I want to boot
my main desktop pc from my laptop over a lan. It's a fairly standard
setup, Vista Business Edition on both machines, and boot on lan
enabled in the bios of the desktop machine (which will be in the 'off'
state, not hibernate or sleep).

Both machines connect to a wireless router (802.11g) and can access
the Internet and each other via telnet. Is this possible or do I need
additional software?

Re: Boot over lan

Hi
You have to use a wire connection to use Wake On LAN (WOL). When using WOL
the computer is Off but the input to the Network card stays On, in contrast,
Wireless is Not staying On when the computer is Off
If you having a wired connection this might help,

Re: Boot over lan

Ok cheers. I've managed to source a small exe program from a guy at
work which should allow me to boot. Interesting to learn that this
won't work over wireless! Bummer

Ok I'm not finished yet! I've managed to boot a wired computer from a
wireless laptop. Now I've tried to boot a wireless desktop from a
wireless laptop - and as was suggested here, no show. However, I've
updated my drivers for my wmp54g linksys wireless card and now have an
additional tab - Power Management now appears in the device
properties. But the only check box I can tick is 'Allow the computer
to turn off this device'. There is another checkbox stating 'Allow
this device to bring the computer out of standby (or similar)' but
this is greyed out.

Is this the end of it? Power up from PCI/PCI-E devices is enabled in
the bios. Surely there must be someway to hack this?
