Xbox 360 Won't log off after using it as media extender with vista

After using my 360 as a media extender, my vista system that it links to
still sees mcx1 logged on, even though I close the xbox, and it is completely
powered off. This makes my vista system run extremely slow, web pages take
forever to load. I go to shutdown or restart and I get a popup saying that
another user is still logged on, and asks if I am sure that I want to "kick"
them and shutdown. I say yes, and it goes to the "logging off" screen with
the spinning circle icon, and it will stay on that screen, froze, forever. I
realized this the first time because I shut it down at night, and it was
still "logging off" in the morning. If I go into task manager, click the
users tab, it shows my system, and the mcx1 still logged in even though it is
off. It won't let me log mcx1 off or disconnect it either in task manager,
if I try to do that, then the task manager freezes up.

Thanks

Re: Xbox 360 Won't log off after using it as media extender with v

Sorry Barb, should have included that originally.

wired network, pc and 360 extender are plugged into the same router, linksys
RT31P2. My old system ran XP MCE 2005 and did not have this issue at all.
This is a brand new system, the only change I made was to delete the Mcafee
that came with it and install CA that I allready had a full subscription
with, and am familiar with.

The extender connects flawlessly, I can watch,record,etc..., I see all my
music/video folders and have access, no problem there. It's just when I shut
down the extender that the pc still sees it as being logged on, and won't log
it off.

Thanks,
Brian

Re: Xbox 360 Won't log off after using it as media extender with v

when you say it is logged in still, do you see the extender in the
network window? if you right click it do you get a menu?

the one variable is CA. do you have this issue without CA installed?

Re: Xbox 360 Won't log off after using it as media extender with v

Yes, when I power off the 360, it still shows up in the network window, it
actually has 2 of them, one for the Xbox 360 and one that says Xbox 360 Media
Center Extender. right click on each and I get: uninstall configure
create shortcut and properties, both properties keep the same mac address,
but the unique indentifier is different, don't know if that helps any. I
have not tried with CA uninstalled, I have been using CA for the last couple
years now without this issue, but that was not with vista. I will try
uninstalling and linking with the extender, and let you know if it shuts down
properly

Re: Xbox 360 Won't log off after using it as media extender with v

Well, uninstall CA didn't fix the problem, still showed the 2 xbox icons in
the network and user mcx1 still logged on, so I went 1 step further, seeing
as it's a new system and I didn't have much on it yet, I did a full factory
restore, then set up the extender first and it works fine, only 1 xbox shows
up in the network when it is on, and when I shut it down it disapears and
mcx1 logs off without issues. My plan now is to try CA again and check at
which step the extender stops logging off, maybe it did it after uninstall of
macafee, or after install of CA. I will figure it out, and I will post in
case someone else runs into this issue.

Thanks,
Brian

Re: Xbox 360 Won't log off after using it as media extender with v

Final Update: It is the CA firewall causing the issue, everything works fine
if I disable the CA firewall but as soon as I enable it, the logging off
issue occurs. I am working with them on the issue now.

Thanks for your time Barb

Sincerely,
Brian
