trouble opening shared folders on network

Hi Everyone,

I have set up my home network between a Vista Ultimate and Home Premium machine and i can "see" all the folders that i shared and have verified that i can print from the laptop (Home Premium) across the network. But what i can't do is actually open a folder. I get the message that i don't have permission, yet everything i can see is set to "full control". i'm sure there is some setting i may not be thinking of here....

Thanks in advance for your help!

Murphy

Hi Murphy,

Double check the steps in this tutorial to see if there may have been something that you overlooked. In particular Step Three.

Simple File Sharing - Enable

If it is a user account's personal folder, you may need to grant permission for the main username folder to be able to access the other folders first.

Re: trouble opening shared folders on network

Thanks Shawn, i saw that tutorial last night but didn't go through it in detail...i'll double check it when i get home tonight. I do have a question though: when i get to #s 9 and 10 under step 3, am i only entering users for the machine the shared folders reside or is their a way that i have to enter the user/network path of the other machine here?

Re: trouble opening shared folders on network

Murphy,

It's for the user accounts on the computer where the shared folder resides. You will logon to the one of those user accounts via your networked computer.
