sharing music files on 2 laptops

hello,
i'm very new to this site as well as to computers. My 2 daughters recently
got laptops. both acers with windows vista. They are trying to share each
others music files but are unable to do so. When they try to add the other's
folder to media player is says "The folder you are trying to add is not
valid. Check that the folder exisits and the path is correct." Can anyone
out here help me with this? I would appreciate any advise you can give me.
Thank you Kerri

Not in 5 words or less... ;-)

There are several ways to do this and you have some options. The Help and
Support feature in the start window are particularly good at getting you
started. I'd suggest going there first. Then if you are stuck someplace,
please come back and ask some specific questions. Tell us about your setup,
cabling, router, networking devices, etc. and what's working and what's not.

Re: sharing music files on 2 laptops

That can be done when the computer are network and the folders with the
music are correctly shared.
When the sharing is working the folder can be mapped (they would appear as
an additional drive on each computer). When you use the Open File menu the
additional drive would be on the list and it can open and play music from a
file on another computer (provided that the other computer is On).
Mapping instructions can be found on Windows Native help (search for the
term Drive Mapping).
As for Sharing.
Successful Sharing involves some general consideration in Network settings,

As well as specific adjustment of each computer according to what it is
allowed to be shared.
