| | Re: Problem networking XP & Vista If you can do the net use but not browser, it could be the computer browser issue. What's the system error, if you use net view command? For example, net view \\remotepcipaddress first and then net view \\remotepchostname. -- Bob Lin, MS-MVP, MCSE & CNE Networking, Internet, Routing, VPN Troubleshooting on http://www.ChicagoTech.net How to Setup Windows, Network, VPN & Remote Access on http://www.HowToNetworking.com "jack99" <jack99@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:791F3210-7C2D-452D-936A-61EE858A17B8@xxxxxx Quote: > My configuration: > Established PC running XP Home SP2 > New Laptop with Vista Home Premium > Netgear Router with ADSL modem, Wireless access point & Ethernet switch > What I can do: > Access the internet from both machines > Share files both ways using Net Use > From Laptop apparently access printer on old PC using Net Use but it does > not work > What I cannot do > Access the other PC (either way) by browsing (but I did on one occasion) > Print from the laptop to to a printer attached to the old PC; on the > laptop > the document status is shown as "Error - Sent to printer" while nothing > appears to occur on the the old PC. > Any suggestions? > > > |

| | Re: Problem networking XP & Vista Jack, thank you for your interest. I did what you suggested and it changed the problem. This time it went down a black hole; as viewed on the Lap Top it appeared to print but nothing was seen on the old PC. | | Re: Problem networking XP & Vista Robert, thank you. All the Net View commands worked without error. In each case they listed the target machine's shares and when it was by name the user machines name for those resources was also listed. "Robert L.
