| | Static IP stuck So basically, I have a Sony Vaio with Windows Vista 32 bits. We send it off to my fathers company to get an anti-virus installed. When they gave it back, I tried to get wired internet but nothing. So I checked the LAN configuration and the static ip and DNS of the company had been left there (when before it was configured to be used with DHCP as I use at home). So I tried to change it by putting Get IP address automatically, nothing complicated. I restarted the computer, but the static IP stayed, as if it was stuck. Tried the same 3 times and nothing. I am the Admin of my computer, but it seems that the OS or something won't let me change the IP address. I went to talk the technicians in the company but they couldn't resolve it. I'm kind of getting mad about this subject, I just want to use the internet in my laptop. After trying everything (even reseting the IP through cmd.exe, which worked because the static IP was erased, yet when viewing properties, the static IP option is still selected but with no specific IP address in the boxes) I can only think of uninstalling and reinstalling the network controller. I am just afraid that the driver is not embeded within the disk (because when I bought the computer, no drivers were given to me). Before doing anything rash and messing the computer even further, I thought I'd get some help. | | Re: Static IP stuck Try to start the Vista with clean boot and change the the static IP first. If that works, change it to use DHCP. | | Re: Static IP stuck Hi Log to Sony's support you probably will find a download driver for the Wireless. Otherwise find what chipset the Wireless is based on and get it from the OEM manufacturer. | | Re: Static IP stuck Thanks for the help guys but it is still stuck. But I think I know whats happening. I am the administrator of my laptop (as shown by the "Users" option in the Control Panel) but at the same time I am not. It is as if I don't have priviliges or as if there was another administrator above me. I'm telling you this because I have tried to download two different programs from the internet and before the program is succesfully saved to a specified folder, it asks for me, the admin, to certify this action. I click OK but it says "Access Denied, Admin authorization needed". I'm thinking that this is why I can't change my static IP to DHCP; I'm not a fully powered admin. Its sounds strange but it fits with the syntoms. What do you think? Are there any similar cases? After that you can again turn user account control on any time. -- amitabhsaha ------------------------------------------------------------------------ amitabhsaha's Profile: http://forums.techarena.in/member.php?userid=49481 View this thread: http://forums.techarena.in/showthread.php?t=967784 http://forums.techarena.in |
