| | Internet connection problems After windows update on 13 May 2008, I noticed that my connection to the Internet had stopped working. After system reboot the problem persists. The network diagnosis is stating that there is only local network connection. It fails to repair the connection problem and the network map can not be displayed. My access to the Internet is via DSL modem, this operating properly as the other PCs on my home network are connecting without any issues. These are Windows XP systems. I have encountered this problem before when Vista was booted with the DSL router/modem switched off. The network diagnosis and repair has never worked for (unlike Windows XP) to get the connection back required system restart. This time it seems to be different multiple restarts have failed to correct the coonection problem. There is no problems or issues with the network or the DSL Router/modem. The computer is operating coorectly and there are no hardware issues. (I am sending this post for the Vista PC, now dual booted into Windows XP) I am using Vista Ultimate SP1 with all upadtes as of 13 May 2008. Vista installation has been operating without any serious issues since December 2007 until now! Has anyone come across this problem? Thanks! MOB16 |

| | Re: Internet connection problems Thank for the response! The problem seems to have corrected itself after the PC rebooted. The DSL modem was not the problem as other PCs on the network at the same time, this issue was occouring to the Vista PC, were connecting to Internet . These PCs are Win XP systems. All the PCs on my home network are using ethernet cabling (no wireless been used). The question that I would like to get an answer to is why the diagnose and repair utlility in Vista never seems to work? If I replicate the problem with a Windows XP system (DSL modem off when Windows boots and no IP address is assigned) the repair utility in Win XP always repairs the connection, gets an IP address and connection to Internet is restored. Is there fundamental differences between Vista and XP in the way that the TCPIP protocol stacks are implement? Could this be the problem with Vista connecting to Routers/DSL Modems that do not support IP V6? MOB16 "Robert L. (MS-MVP)" wrote: Quote: > Ty to reset the DSL modem.
