Vista - wireless router constantly reset and restarting

I installed preRC1 on one of my laptops that is connected to a home network
through a wireless router. The internet connection is ok. I can browse the
internet and get the download from upgrade. A major problem doscovered by my
children is the wireless router constantly reset and restarting every few
minutes. This process disconnets all the computers from the internet, even
those that are connected through an ethernet cable. This is a big problems
for their internet games which require constant internet connections.

I am not sure this is a Vista specific problem or is related to IE 7 RC. I
believe installation of IE 7 RC on a XP machine also causes router to restart
constantly. Does any one else experience a similar problem. I tried to
uninstall the two discovery drivers associated with the wireless adapter as
suggested by someone, but it apparently did not help.

Any suggestions or solutions?

Hi Dash,

From what you are telling us it does not sound like this is a Vista problem
at all. It sounds to me like you might have to upgrade the firmware on your
router, which is a simple and relatively harmless process if you have any of
the popular home routers (Linksys, D-Link, Netgear, etc...).

Hi Montreal,

Thank you for your reply. The question is why is my router worked perfectly
and without any dropping of any network connection and restart of the router
when I had all XP computers connected to it. My instinct would fault Vista or
IE7 for the constant reset and restarting of the router.

We are starting to see many problems where router manufactures were making
some mistakes but XP did not care much, but Vista does, or that XP did not
use certain functionality in various standards (or enforce), but now Vista
does.

In many of these cases, the router manufacturers are just now finding bugs
which they are fixing because previously "it just worked" with XP. Hopefully
in most cases, as Montreal points out, this will just require a firmware
upgrade to work properly.
