XP-Vista Home Network; Printing Prefrences Unavailable

I have set up a home network - one desktop running xp, two laptops running
Vista, and a printer attached to the desktop. File sharing and printer
sharing enabled and available. When I try to print from one of the laptops
(MS Office 2007, note pad), I can't access Printer Preferences - I get the
following error:

Function Address (0x69dba288, 0x6969a288, etc.)
caused protection fault. Some or all property pages might not be
displayed.

The printer functions from all cpus, but Properties can't be accessed.
