| | Windows Vista Network Connection CHi. I'm using the Windows Vista RC1 at home and at work, to give experience in this two environment. At home, I'm using the 64 bits, with no problems. At work, I'm using the 32 bits. Until I put my computer in the domain, the network was working normally. After this, when I restarted the computer, the network (all: wired, wireless, by modem...) does not work and the tray bar icon shows the message "Connection Status: unknown - The dependency service or group failed to start". When I look in the "Services", the service "Diagnostic Police Service" was not started and when I try to start it, the follow message is showed: "Windows could not start the Diagnostic Police Service on Local Computer - Error 5: Access is denied". I had retired my computer from the domain, but the network connection is still unavailable. What should I do? Thanks for all. Marcus Vinicius mvinicius@pobox.com |

| | I have the exact same issue when trying to connect multiple vista business machines to a 2000 domain. as soon as I join the machine I cannot get to any computer on the network. All of the services fail to start such as DHCP etc etc. when I try to connect I get a message connection status unknown. The dependency service or group failed to start. |

| | Re: Windows Vista Network Connection Hey guys--any luck dealing with this? I'm having the exact same problem and have no "Non-XP" restore points to go back to so I'm really stuck... Desperately hoping for a reply.. ![]() -- milcasey ------------------------------------------------------------------------ milcasey's Profile: http://forums.techarena.in/member.php?userid=24697 View this thread: http://forums.techarena.in/showthread.php?t=590657 http://forums.techarena.in |

| | I figured out my issue. It was related to my 2000 default domain group policy settings that were getting applied when joining the machine to a domain. Add the machine to an OU with block group policy enabled. And create a special policy and apply it to the vista machines with minimal settings. Vista does not like policy changes that mess with security settings at all. |
