| | Vista RC1: on Domain but cant get to internet hi I have the Windows Vista RC1 installed fine, activated via telephone fine. Got it onto our domain no problem, i can see all users fine. I cant get to the internet, like i normally would with windows XP pro. Our internet is ADSL shared out via a patch panel and Router. Normally once the domain is set up, the internet works straight away. The settings in Internet Explorer are set to "Automatically detect network" as normal. Im at a losse to be honest. Any hints would be warmly accepted. Thanks Simon |

| | Re: Vista RC1: on Domain but cant get to internet Check the Windows Firewall settings. You may have to add outbound rules manually, as well as inbound rules. If you have a packet analyzer like tcpdump/windump you can troubleshoot whether or not your problem is inbound or outbound. But I would start by disabling the firewall first to see if that restores your internet connectivity. If it does, then you have found the problem. After that you will need to manually add firewall rules to open up your system. -- Edward Ray CCIE Security, CISSP, GCIA Gold, GCIH Gold, MCSE+Security, PE |

| | RE: Vista RC1: on Domain but cant get to internet Can you test something? Try accessing www.google.com in IE. If it fails, try accessing http://64.233.183.103 . Will that work? -- /Robert "simon bratt" wrote: > hi > I have the Windows Vista RC1 installed fine, activated via telephone fine. > Got it onto our domain no problem, i can see all users fine. > I cant get to the internet, like i normally would with windows XP pro. > Our internet is ADSL shared out via a patch panel and Router. > Normally once the domain is set up, the internet works straight away. > The settings in Internet Explorer are set to "Automatically detect network" > as normal. > Im at a losse to be honest. > > Any hints would be warmly accepted. > > Thanks > > Simon |

| | RE: Vista RC1: on Domain but cant get to internet HI didnt try that robert in the end, what fixed it was that Vista wasnt picking up the DNS server automatically, when i put the ip's of the DNS in the net worked properly. Therefore i might assume your request of entering in an ip for a website may have worked Thanks again simon "Robert Schoultz" wrote: > Can you test something? > > Try accessing www.google.com in IE.
