Hi
Successful Sharing involves some general consideration in Network settings,
http://www.ezlan.net/sharing.html
As well as specific adjustment of each computer according to what it is
allowed to be shared.

Hi ristar,
Firstly Microsoft's in depth tutorial is here
but basically things to check are
Workgroup name identical on all machines
sharing enabled and at least one folder shared on all machines
An identical user with a password set on all machines
If you work through the tutorial and post back with any specific errors you receive.
Hope this helps
Hi
All other computers, which are running on XP, are sharing perfectly. its
only the laptop which is running on Vista that is having problems.

Hi
Did you tune the Firewall to allow sharing.
Try to add Port 445 manually to the exceptions.

XP could see and access Vista but Vista could only see my XP computer and
access was denied.
Have a look at this thread:

I have a vista ultimate sp1 laptop and xp sp3 desktop connected on teh
same workgroup and router (linksys wireless router, does dhcp). i am
unable to access to printer or shared folders from vista to xp desktop
and viceversa. i am unable to even ping each other using computer name
or ipaddress. i cant map netwrok drive either. and i dont see them in
the network map on vista laptop or xp machine.
i did everything suggested in this forum including:
1. enabling sharing on vista (network and sharing center). enable
everything.
2. turn on file and printer sharing on xp
2a. run through network sharing wizard on xp.
3. sharing drives on both
4. create same user on both vista laptop and xp pc
5. they are on teh same workgroup
6. they can both access internet, but i cant access printer or shared
folders on xp desktop from vista laptop.
7. turn off firewalls on both laptops
8. i have ESET anti-virus and its not blocking anything.
9. network type on vista is set to private.
the only way i can get them to see each other and share folders is by
giving my xp desktop a static ip. but this makes the xp machine lose
connection to the internet. i am guessing it loses internet connectivity
because the router is setup to do dhcp.
Please help.

Hi
Make sure that the Software Firewall on each computer allows free local
traffic. If you use 3rd party Firewall On, Vista/XP Native Firewall should
be Off, and the active Firewall has to adjusted to your Network IP numbers
on what is some time called the Trusted Zone (consult your 3rd Party
Firewall instructions.

I have been through all of these steps, and others, to allow me to access my
XP computers from this Vista computer. So far, I have been successful twice.
And now, Vista has stopped accessing the XP computers again! I can see the
computer names, but can not even ping them. I have no firewall or other
third party software. Those were the first thinhgs I had to get rid of and
turn. I do use Static IPs, which should help stabilize the connection by
removing any external influences from a router.
Surely Microsoft has to have a better solution than just blaming third party
software and firewalls. I remember a couple of issues like this with XP's
first release. Then Microsoft provided an update and corrected the issue.
What can be done to establish a Solid Network between XP computers and
Vista????
Thanks
