| | Ethernet not seeing network - wireless does Hi, All: I have a small home network: Four machines running WinXP Pro, and a Dell XPS laptop running Vista Ultimate. Once set up, Vista wireless saw all other machines and shared files and printers on the network. Today, for the first time since owning the Dell (Approximately 6 months), I inserted the Ethernet cable. I was immediately able to go out on the internet, but Vista could not see any of the other machines on the network, nor any of the shared files. Unplug the Ethernet, switch on the wifi, and Vista is able see the network, along with the other machines, files shared, and communications among computers are reinstated. Whatever am I missing here or not doing? Thank you in advance for your help and/or suggestions. Ernie |

| | Re: Ethernet not seeing network - wireless does Hi, Jack: Thank you for the links. As a result, it's now interfacing with every computer on the network. Now I can create an Acronis image to my main network hard drive. I'll be keeping your email squirreled away for future use. Your help is most appreciated. I wish you well, Ernie "Jack (MVP-Networking)." <jack@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:u5ZnKjKNJHA.456@xxxxxx Quote: > Hi > Maybe this can Help. > As well as specific adjustment of each computer according to what it is > allowed to be shared. > Vista File and Printer Sharing- > http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/l.../bb727037.aspx > Windows XP File Sharing - > http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;en-us;304040 > Printer Sharing XP - > http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/u...utt_july2.mspx > Windows Native Firewall setting for Sharing XP - > http://support.microsoft.com/kb/875357 > Windows XP patch for Sharing with Vista - > http://support.microsoft.com/kb/922120 > Jack (MVP-Networking). > > "Scrivener" <dntsaycant@xxxxxx> wrote in message > news:4DA25B2A-E1E2-451F-BD91-AF5EBC023ACB@xxxxxx Quote: >> Hi, All: >> >> I have a small home network: Four machines running WinXP Pro, and a Dell >> XPS laptop running Vista Ultimate.
