Ethernet not seeing network - wireless does

Hi, All:

I have a small home network: Four machines running WinXP Pro, and a Dell
XPS laptop running Vista Ultimate. Once set up, Vista wireless saw all
other machines and shared files and printers on the network. Today, for the
first time since owning the Dell (Approximately 6 months), I inserted the
Ethernet cable. I was immediately able to go out on the internet, but Vista
could not see any of the other machines on the network, nor any of the
shared files. Unplug the Ethernet, switch on the wifi, and Vista is able
see the network, along with the other machines, files shared, and
communications among computers are reinstated.

Whatever am I missing here or not doing?

Thank you in advance for your help and/or suggestions.

Ernie

Re: Ethernet not seeing network - wireless does

Hi, Jack:

Thank you for the links. As a result, it's now interfacing with every
computer on the network. Now I can create an Acronis image to my main
network hard drive.

I'll be keeping your email squirreled away for future use.

Your help is most appreciated.

I wish you well,

Ernie
