Permission Problem

First, I've searched the forums and cannot find a similar issue.

My problems are I cannot access a specific folder and its subfolders on my data drive or setup network sharing on my LAN. I can access and share all of the other folders on the drive with no problems. I can "see" the problem folder and subfolders, but when I try to access the folder, I get the message "do not have permission to access the file location".

I have tried disabling UAC, logging in as a real administrator, and adding "Everyone" to the permissions list.

Also, the Network Share button is greyed out for this folder. I'm unsure why it's unavailable. However, I can setup up sharing in the "Advanced Sharing" options, but the subfolders are not shared. I thought that if the parent folder was shared, the subfolders should have the same permissions by default.

Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Take ownership of the problem folder and subfolders:

Re: Permission Problem

Steve,

First, THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH!! The problem is solved. And just so you know, the folder was almost ten years worth of family photos on a RAID 10 array.

For my knowledge, what would cause only one folder to have problems with permissions and not any of the other folders?

P.S. I don't post help messages very often, but you helped me with another issue several months ago. Thanks again and again...

You're welcome! I'm glad to help then and now. :-)

I don't know why the folder problem occurred. I recommend backing up
all your data to DVDs or an external disk to protect against a future
disk failure.
