Howdy,

I have the Sierra Wireless Express card for wireless broadband (3G).
I had not used it for a few weeks - using a local hot spot instead.
Over this time several Vista Security fixes were downloaded from Windows
Update and installed.
The Sierra Wireless card will no longer connect complaining that it cannot
dial out.

Triage Steps:
Reinstalled the connection software - no fix
Reinstalled the drivers - no fix
Installed the latest and greatest drivers from sierra wireless - no fix
Took the card to the provider for triage.

Here is where it gets interesting:
As a stop gap measure (having connectio is CRITICAL for my job). I got the
't-stick' Sierra Wireless USB modem (597 Compass).
This card also does not work in Vista.

Again (for the USB card):
Reinstalled the connection software - no fix
Reinstalled the drivers - no fix
Installed the latest and greatest drivers from sierra wireless - no fix
Various combonations of the above 3 items and no fix.
Temp (full) disable of the firewall is no help.

I spent hours with tech support checking settings and no fix.
Here is the got-ya. If I input the USB modem into a XP machine - it works
like a champ.
I also tried a competator's USB modem and it has the same problem.
I also tried multiple USB ports and no -fix.

I have tech support telling me to either re-install Vista or downgrade to XP
on my work box. I find this unacceptable.

So I am asking which security update propogated since 18th October is the
issue and a fix/work around.

As you see from the following link - I am not the only person who has had
this or a similar problem:

http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/for...-8b4c1ddc4c81/

I have anti-virus and firewall enabled at all times so I do not suspect a
virus (I keep this machine as a work machine ONLY).
