Vista Remote Desktop

I am trying to use XP to remotely control a Vista Business computer on
a local network and still allow the Vista machine's video to stay
"live". I have no problem establishing the session, but when I do, the
Vista machine's desktop "locks" instead of displaying the live
desktop. The point is to remotely control a Vista computer connected
to a projector and the video should show the action not simply go to a
locked screen.

I thought of using Netmeeting since you can install it on Vista, but
they have disabled the "remote desktop" feature in Netmeeting when it
runs on Vista.

I don't want to use a third party solution or a "remote assistance"
session, if possible.

Any ideas?

By design that is how it works.

Re: Vista Remote Desktop

Sure wish Netmeeting still worked (properly) in vista. I wonder why
they took out useful features??

Re: Vista Remote Desktop

Try UltraVNC (based on TightVNC, I believe). It's free and available for
download at http://www.uvnc.com. It supports "shared sessions", so you can
remote control it and have its desktop remain "live", as you wish. In fact,
you can even optionally simultaneously control the system locally and
remotely. (Great for remotely helping "newbies".)

Re: Vista Remote Desktop

It appears that without using a "third-party" solution (which I have
not tried yet), I will have to use the "Remote Assistance" avenue to
get it done. If they hadn't disabled the remote desktop function in
Metmeeting when it runs on Vista, I would go that route. I may still
try the "third party" ideas in the future, but sinced it's not a
major
issue at the moment, will wait for some free time.
