Vista - Wireless Printer Cannot Be "Placed" On Network and Sharing Center Map...?

Disregarding my large post above and starting off very brief... Should
my wireless printer show as mapped in the 'View full map' in the
Network and Sharing Center?

'View full map' shows it as a device but says it cannot be placed in
the map... However when it at least shows the printer device the
wireless printer works fine. The problem is that for unknown reasons
this device gets lost and doesn't show and when that happens I have no
printer connectivity. So far the only 'fix' it seems that I have
discovered is to turn everything off and unplug it then plug the
wireless router back in, the printer back in, turn on the printer and
boot the computer.

I'm trying to resolve why I lose the printer for unknown reasons so
far and why I seem to lose wireless Internet connectivity too where it
one minute drops connection then searches and the next minute
connects. The signal strength is always Excellent--never seen it drop
one green bar.

The laptop is Vista Ultimate 64-bit; the printer is an HP C7280
All-in-One; and the router is a NETGEAR WNR 2000; and I use Kaspersky
Internet Security 2009.

Assuming that the printer is connecting directly to the Router to serve as a
Network Printer.
Set the printer with a static IP so it always can be found at the same
network location.
If it does not resolve the issue, try to connect your laptop to the Router
with a cable.
Why? Because from your description it is hard to know whether you lose the
Wireless connection from the computer to the Router (and thus lose the
printer) or it could be that printer loses it connection to the Router, or
Both.
The next step would be according to the finding of where the connection is
lost.

Thank you Jack... I'd like to 'regroup' slightly before trying any
cable tricks to troubleshoot I've learned some more information about
the problem(s) and would like to clarify...

The printer is wireless to the router.

It may be that there are two different problems here that may or may
not be related. When the laptop loses connection it immediately
starts searching to reconnect and reconnects in a few seconds. When
it is searching it indicates it is 'public' or looking for a 'public'
connection but when it connects to my 'LAN' it is always once again
'private'. I believe I only notice this now when the machine is
finishing up booting or coming out of sleep so, in fact, this may be
normal where I just don't give it enough time and have become to
conscious of its activity, i.e., I may have set something correctly to
resolve the problem.

The printer connectivity seems to get lost after booting or recovering
from sleep too. However it does not automatically recover its
wireless connection. When it is lost I cannot log into it and at the
printer itself if I look at the wireless settings it will display a
strange IP address. I can restore its connectivity every time by
unplugging the router, waiting, and plugging it back in (of course).
After the recovery the printer displays the proper same IP address
that the router has found and I set in the router's LAN settings.

Is it possible that if I want to operate wirelessly I should disable
Sleep? When I am not using the computer I could just as easily blank
the screen with Fn+F2 or just leave the screen on since I doubt
somewhat doubt any 'need' to sleep anyway.

In a new post here which I now realize I should not have made I
mentioned discovering two Services that may relate: One is the DNS
Client which is Disabled and the second is HP Network Devices Support
which is Automatic (Delayed Start).
