Vista - Cant connect to Internet either wireless or plugged into router, PLZ HELP!

ok the exact problem is the affected comp can't connect to the internet
either plugged into the router (how I want it to be) or if I try
installing one of the USB Wireless Adapters (netgear WG111v2) that the
other 3 computers in the house use, which all are getting the wireless
signal from the router no problem, on one right now. I have the problem
comp (will be just comp from here out) currently plugged into the router
via ethernet and the Network & Sharing Center on Vista says its
connected to network 2 but then there is a big red X thru the line that
goes to the internet.

Even if I plug the comp directly into the modem without a router
involved its still doesn't do anything, which is very hard to believe.
I've had Comcast out here twice to test the connection and they keep
saying something has happened to the comp somehow, so need to figure
out what the heck is going on, because like it says in the original
post, when I first ever installed the router onto the comp , the comp
worked with the internet but the router wasn't sending signal. So I
uninstalled the router and reinstalled and this is when this has
happened. can't connect to the internet on that comp now in no forms,
whether its directly into the router or trying to use a USB adapter. I
just don't get it why the wireless won't even work. I've tried every
solution that vista says: rebuild adapter, reset IP, everything. I even
unistalled the network controller & reinstalled.

Ok now hopefully with all of this info someone can get this corrected.
Its not the router cause I get signal thru out the house fine. I've
even hooked the original comp I had on it back up to it via ethernet,
all 4 ports & worked just fine. Also hooked up the original router
before I got comcast & still worked on the original comp but not this
comp I'm having a problem with. Plus not getting a signal being plugged
right into modem is weird.

Hi
There is No point to jump from one topology to the other.
If other computers works well with the Router there is No point playing with
the Router and the modem (or deal with Comcast)..
Better to start with wire cause there is less variables to deal with.
Only when its works well with wired connection start dealing with Wireless.
Try to reformat the hard drive and reinstall Windows.
