Network Browsing/Sahre problems

Hi.
Current configuration:
1 Windows 2003 server at 192.168.2.101 doing dns, active directory, the works
2 vista pcs (build 5744 rc2): first rav-pc 192.168.2.88, second rkd-home
192.168.2.2

In network all 3 can see each other.
from command prompt: ping {comp name} comes back <name} resolved to
192.168.2.[xxx] but timesout
i.e. ping rkd-home says pinging rkd-home [192.168.2.2] rquest timed out x 3
- 100% packet loss.

In network neighbourhood all 3 computeres list each other but click on them
on the two vista boxes i get 0x80070035 error message.

if i ping the ip number directly (i.e. ping 192.168.2.2) i get timed out
100% loss).

network diagnositics fail because they cannot ping the host.

obviously vista clients log in fine to the w2k3 server and indeed and browse
shares on it but not each other!

HELP! thanks in advance, Rav

RE: Network Browsing/Shhre problems

Ok. I fixed my own problem.

Windows onecare basically has seetings to block ICMPv4 inbound blocking

To open your machine up if its not pinging or opening on the network is to:

-open windows onecare live window from the taskbar icon
-click change onecare settins
-goto firewall tab
-click advanced settings button
-goto ports and protocols tab
-tick the ICMPv4 inbound tickbox (i gues ICMPv6 inbound too if you can use
this)

and in my case I also needed to:
-goto the sharing tab
-change "do not share files and printers" to "only share them with computers
on my local network (subnet) or if more freedom wanted the "share them with
all computers, even those on the internet"!

-Click apply, ok all the way out as necessary

Now file sharing and pings work... Bliss
