| | Fail connecting to local virtual machines I have a Windows Vista in an enterprize domain. This PC is running VMware supporting also some 3 virtual XP machines. In another networking card via LAN it is connected also to another XP machine, which is not a domain memeber. Problem is that while maping a local drive in the LAN PC works fine, connectng and/or maping in the virtual machines (also not members in the Vista domain) fails. Can someone help please? Regards James |

| | Re: Fail connecting to local virtual machines Thanks Bob Lin, I couldn't ping a hostname so I enabled NetBios over TCP/IP following your advice. Pinging using hostname still failed. I want to try the DNS option but don't know how to do it. Can you farther help? Regards James Quote: > Can you ping the hostname? If not, check the DNS settings or enable Quote: > over TCP/IP. | | Re: Fail connecting to local virtual machines I have a lot questions regarding this configuration. 1. 100.0.0.0/8 is private IP addresses or private? 2. Are you using 8.0.0.0/8 as private IP addresses? 3. Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 0.0.0.0 8.30.8.136 could be the problem too. 4. Default: Server UnKnown could be another problem. -- Bob Lin, Microsoft-MVP, MCSE & CNE Networking, Internet, Routing, VPN Troubleshooting on http://www.ChicagoTech.net How to Setup Windows, Network, VPN & Remote Access on http://www.HowToNetworking.com "James" <Ijames@newsgroup> wrote in message news:%23%23EauBVXKHA.3404@newsgroup Quote: > Following is the result you asked for. > Regards > James > Quote: >>nslookup > Address: 100.0.0.3 > Quote: >>ipconfig/all > > Host Name . . . . . . . . . . . . : MyPc > Primary Dns Suffix . . . . . . . : dns.prim > Node Type . . . . . . . . . . . . : Hybrid > IP Routing Enabled. . . . . . . . : No > WINS Proxy Enabled. . . . . . . . : No > DNS Suffix Search List. . . . . . : dns.prim > > Ethernet adapter 100.0.0.3: > > Connection-specific DNS Suffix . : > Description . . . . . . . . . . . : Intel(R) PRO/100 S Desktop Adapter > Physical Address. . . . . . . . . : 00-02-B3-32-A8-AC > DHCP Enabled. . . . . . . . . . . : No > Autoconfiguration Enabled . . . . : Yes > IPv4 Address. . . . . . . . . . . : 100.0.0.3(Preferred) > Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.0.0.0 > Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 0.0.0.0 > 8.30.8.136 > DNS Servers . . . . . . . . . . . : 100.0.0.3 > 100.0.0.31 > NetBIOS over Tcpip. . . . . . . . : Enabled > > Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection: > > Connection-specific DNS Suffix . : dns.prim > Description . . . . . . . . . . . : Intel(R) 82567LM-3 Gigabit Network > Connection > Physical Address. . . . . . . . . : 00-23-AE-5F-F5-A3 > DHCP Enabled. . . . . . . . . . . : Yes > Autoconfiguration Enabled . . . . : Yes > IPv4 Address. . . . . . . . . . . : 8.30.8.136(Preferred) > Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.0.0.0 > Lease Obtained. . . . . . . . . . : ?.?TO?T? 03 .Z~ 2009 09:41:47 > Lease Expires . . . . . . . . . . : ?.??Z?T? 03 f-Z~ 2009 09:41:51 > Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 8.0.0.1 > DHCP Server . . . . . . . . . . . : 8.20.5.146 > DNS Servers . . . . . . . . . . . : 8.20.5.146 > 15.132.0.51 > Primary WINS Server . . . . . . . : 8.20.5.146 > Secondary WINS Server . . . . . . : 15.132.0.51 > NetBIOS over Tcpip. . . . . . . . : Enabled > > Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection 2: > > Connection-specific DNS Suffix . : > Description . . . . . . . . . . . : VMware Virtual Ethernet Adapter for > VMnet1 > Physical Address. . . . . . . . . : 00-50-56-C0-00-01 > DHCP Enabled. . . . . . . . . . . : No > Autoconfiguration Enabled . . . . : Yes > IPv4 Address. . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.50.1(Preferred) > Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.0 > Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : > NetBIOS over Tcpip. . . . . . . . : Enabled > > Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection 2: > > Connection-specific DNS Suffix . : > Description . . . . . . . . . . . : VMware Virtual Ethernet Adapter for > VMnet8 > Physical Address. . . . . . . . . : 00-50-56-C0-00-08 > DHCP Enabled. . . . . . . . . . . : No > Autoconfiguration Enabled . . . . : Yes > IPv4 Address. . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.47.1(Preferred) > Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.0 > Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : > NetBIOS over Tcpip. . . . . . . . : Enabled > > Quote: >> We need more information to help.
