Cannot connect to XP Printer Share - error "Not Enough Memory"

I am trying to connect to a shared printer on an XP SP2 machine, but I get
the error:

Windows cannot connect to the printer. There is not enough memory to
complete this operation. Please close some programs and try again.

I am able to browse the shared resources on the XP SP2 machine without
error, and have no trouble mapping to shared folders or accessing shared
data. The only problem I encounter is when I try to connect to the shared
printer.

I have recreated the printer share on the XP SP2 machine and still receive
the same error on my Vista machine.

RE: Cannot connect to XP Printer Share - error "Not Enough Memory"

Hello,

I have found this fixed most of my network sharing issues.

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/285089/en-us

it seems that Vista's IRP Stack size is in error and gives those out of
memory errors.

yours system may already have this parameter set, so it is a cr*p shoot.

Good luck

RE: Cannot connect to XP Printer Share - error "Not Enough Memory"

I did attempt to adjust the IRP Stack Size, but it did not seem to have any
effect on mapping the printer.

I was however finally able to get it to work by first installing the printer
drive, then manually creating a new Local Port to the remote share.

Re: Cannot connect to XP Printer Share - error "Not Enough Memory"

I am also unable to add a shared printer on my WinXP SP2 computer to my
new Vista laptop. I've set IRPStackSize to 20 (decimal) on both
computers, and rebooted both. No problem mapping a drive letter on the
Vista laptop to a shared folder on the XP computer, but an attempt (on
Vista PC) to add this shared network printer returns this message:

Windows cannot connect to the printer. There is not enough memory to
complete this operation. Please close some programs and try again.

On the XP computer, the only program running is Windows Explorer. The
Vista laptop has 2GB of RAM, and only Firefox and "Add Printer" are
running. There should be plenty of memory on both computers.

Any other solutions, please?

Thanks,
Bill

Re: Cannot connect to XP Printer Share - error "Not Enough Memory"

1. You may want to try increase IRPStackSize up to 54.
2. Or try to install the printer as local port first and then re-capture it
as network printer. This link may help. Please post back with the result.
