NIC settings will not change

Maybe it's just me. I go into the properties of either the wireless or wired
settings for my network connections in Vista and change either the IP or DNS
settings. The OS tells me I have to reboot for the changes to take effect.
I reboot and the setting come back exactly as set before the changes.

Any ideas?

RE: NIC settings will not change

Hmmm. That's a little odd. I don't recall Vista asking me to reboot after
changing IP address or DNS settings? Is that all you're changing?

Maybe it would help if you told us EXACTLY what you're doing. Are you using
the standard OS-provided dialog for configuring the settings, or are you
using third party software? What exact settings are you trying to enter. Let
me explain what I have in mind. If you're trying to set something that isn't
possible, or if your network and system are set up so that they can't
establish proper communication, then you might expect to see an ARP address
appear in your IP field, for example.

Sorry if my suggestion is dumb, but it wasn't clear from your post how
familiar you are with networking in general, and this is the sort of thing
that can certainly be confusing to anyone who's new to it. It would look very
much as though Vista was refusing to accept the changes you were making. On
the other hand, the rebooting thing really has me stumped.
