Cannot connect Vista to Wireless Network

I just purchased a Sony Vaio N220E w/ Windows Vista Home Premium and I cannot
get it to connect wirelessly to my DLink DI-514 wireless router. I have
never had any problems connecting any of my computers or laptops to the
router. I tried removing the WEP security just to try it, but it still did
not connect. It says it cannot connect due to an unknown error.

RE: Cannot connect Vista to Wireless Network

you could try unchecking the IPv6 box in your connection properties, doing
this has resolved a number of network issues for me at work and home.

wireless belkin router. I tried everything. I do what you said MCFLY, and if
it doesnt work, im seriously thinking about switching back to XP.

Re: Cannot connect Vista to Wireless Network

I just bought a new Sony Vaio NS110E (Vista Home Premium) and experienced the same problem connecting wirelessly to DI-514. My router setting was NO encryption. Searched a lot on internet and couldn't find a solution.

However, after I tried to set the router to WPA-PSK encrypted with a passphrase and set the computer's wireless encryption type to WPA-Personal TKIP encryption, suddenly the wireless connection works. So it seems that the router's non-secured or WEP secured options have issue with Vista.

To allow the router secured by WPA, you have to update its firmware from D-link's website, and reconfig the router from an XP computer wired to it.

Hopefully this reply can help some other guys like me to avoid spending hours on solution search.

Re: Cannot connect Vista to Wireless Network

You know...I followed all of these actions, and this may sound so elementary and so silly, but sometimes it is the really simple stuff that trips you up!

I looked at the bottom of my laptop and found the wireless Lan mac address, and it was way different than the one the ipconfig was reporting. So, I put that mac address in my list of allowed on our wireless router and ....

CHA...Ching...I was connected.

Go figure.

Just a thought.

RE: Cannot connect Vista to Wireless Network

Hi Unknown

Could you be more specified, are you connecting vista through a laptop and
is there any security as in wep or wpa being set?

If the above answer is yes, ensure that the router config page for network
security key or passphrase for the SSID is the same on the laptop side

Regards

============================

I was very specific. I connected a laptop using 64 bit Vista. The Mac address on the label on the bottom of the laptop was the real mac address, and not the one reported when I typed in ipconfig /all at the command line.

Already had the SSID matching. It is our router on a home network.
Not sure what your comment is pertaining to, as I said I fixed it.

The only reason I posted it was to help others who might be having problems like I was originally and who had run out of obvious choices.
