Vista - Vista Premium & Mac OS X Login

Just got my Dell M1210 with Vista Home Premium today. Can see my iMac with
Mac OS x Tiger 10.4 and my HP PC with XP just fine. However, whenever I try
to connect to the iMac I get an error "Login Unsuccessful. Windows is unable
to log you on. Be sure that your user name and password are correct". The ID
and Password are correct! The HP and the Dell can access each other just
fine. And, the iMac can access the HP with no problems. Have had the iMac
since last October and never had a problem accessing the HP PC or an
additional HP Laptop I have. Anyone have any idea what might be going on
with Vista here? BTW, I have both disabled and reenabled the Windows
firewall and tried logging in both ways, with no luck either way. I need to
print to a printer connected to the iMac and get some data files off the
iMac. Any help would be VERY MUCH appreciated. No, I have not attempted to
contact Apple yet.

Two things:

1. Make sure you have the latest version of Samba on OS X. If you are
doing your Apple Updates regularly, you will.

2. In Vista, make these changes:

Start>Run>secpol.msc [enter]

Click on "Local Policies" --> "Security Options"

Navigate to the policy "Network Security: LAN Manager authentication
level" and double-click it to get its Properties. By default Windows
Vista sets the policy to "NTVLM2 responses only". Use the drop-down
arrow to change this to "LM and NTLM – use NTLMV2 session security if
negotiated".

In Vista Home Premium, you won't have this tool so per MVP Steve
Winograd, do:

1. Run the registry editor and open this key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Lsa

1. If it doesn't already exist, create a DWORD value named
LmCompatibilityLevel

3. Set the value to 1

4. Reboot

Malke,
I did as you suggested, checked the registry and the key is setup as per the
information provided.
However, when I try to run 'secpol.msc' to edit the Local Policies, I get an
error message "Windows cannot find secpol.msc. Make sure you typed the name
correctly and try again" as soon as I hit the enter key. I even tried it
straight from the CMD prompt, no luck. Still trying, but not having much fun
on this end with this problem.

You forgot to read the last bit of my previous post. You probably have
Vista Home Premium. Here it is again for your convenience:
