Can't detect other computers in the network

Hi, my company is using a router for the network(mainly share printer and
files). I turned off my firewall(McAfree), and set the network as Private
Network. I was able to detect the printers from others, but I could not see
other computers when I open my network place, nor detect them. Any
    suggestion? Please advise. Thanks!
    Danny

Assuming this is workgroup network, have you enabled the NetBIOS over TCP/IP?

Always uninstall any non-Microsoft firewall software as the first step in
troubleshooting network connectivity issues. They rarely disable themselves
    completely or properly.

I just had the identical issue and solved it by uninstalling Norton Internet
Suite 2007 which came preloaded on a new Dell laptop with Vista Business.
