i will explain the issues that i'm having, because this seems to be the
same issue.
I just upgraded to vista ultimate 64, and i'm hating the networking
aspects. i keep a lot of my data on my server: disc images, films,
back-ups in comressed folders, etc, and i can't transfer them
(consistently) over the wireless. i drag and drop the file on my
desktop, a box appears "calculating..." and then it disappears after a
couple of minutes, but no actual transfer takes place.
if i use ethernet, no problems. at my house, we keep images on the
server because it's faster that using the actual cd/dvd for programs
that require them. with the kind of latency and slow disk i/o of my
hdd, it's MUCH faster to use the gigabit connection to a raid5 server.
with wireless, suddenly, there's no point in using the server for these
tasks, it's a pathetic mess.
i disabled autotuning, because it's ridiculous and hampers networking.
i disabled compression for transfers, because that's an even worse idea.
over ethernet, i can send/receive at 30% with my current settings.
using wireless, my transfers are limited to 1.5MB/s, but rarely even 1.
it's faster to use bittorrent over my lan with vista! that is the only
way i see transfers of at least 2MB/s. these hurdles are the main
things holding me back from upgrading my wireless network to n; i'm sure
i won't get anywhere near the bandwidth that n supports (look at the
abysmal g speeds)
