| | XP & Remote Desktop Connection Vista Hi all, I have just purchased a new PC in the office running Windows Vista Business. My previous PC is using XP Pro and I am used to using Netmeeting Remote Desktop Sharing to allow me to remotely control my PC from any where in the network(inclusive of VPN connections from outside). I enabled the Remote Desktop feature on the PC and happily tried to remote from an XP Pro PC. I was able to be connected but suddenly, the Remote Desktop screen on XP just closed by itself. Then I tried to login on my Vista PC. Wasn't able to do so. Tried a few times also cannot. No choice. Then I login to Administrator and found out under task manager-users, that my username was disconnected. I proceeded to logoff the user. Only then, then I can login to my username. I further investigated by login in as Administrator. Using the same XP PC, I tried remote desktop into the Vista PC. Viola, it worked. Besides the Administrator, another temp account was able to do it. Weird, what could be wrong? Is anyone able to help? Thanx!!! Remote Desktop Distress!!!!! |

Like XP you need to be an administrator or a member of the Remote Desktop Users Group. Have you added your normal user account to the list of authorized users on the Vista PC? http://windowshelp.microsoft.com/Win...41033.mspx#EIB Also note that like XP only one account will be able to access the desktop either locally or via Remote Desktop at a time. | | Re: XP & Remote Desktop Connection Vista I have already added to remote desktop and even administrator group. Still the same. The temp account that I mentioned was configured exactly like my username account. Really confused. Either an account is configured or its not and its either an administrator or its a standard user account (ie. limited on an XP box). So, lets backup a bit... Your trying to connect from an XP box to a new Vista box, correct? You have an admin user account on the Vista machine. Do you also have a standard user account on the same Vista machine? Can you use Remote Desktop to remotely access the Vista machine using the admin account? If so, logoff (not disconnect) from the Vista machine. Can you subsequently use Remote Desktop to remotely access the Vista machine using the standard user account? -- Al Jarvi (MS-MVP Windows Networking) Please post *ALL* questions and replies to the news group for the mutual benefit of all of us... | | Re: XP & Remote Desktop Connection Vista Ok. Let me rephrase. All the accounts involved are domain accounts. My username is roger.aw. Administrator is Administrator. As for the temp account, it's username is temp. I added all these 3 members to administrator grouping on my Vista PC. Both Administrator and temp are able to login to RDC correctly. But not my username. The sign in name is domain/roger.aw, domain/administrator and domain/temp. I have be at it for the past few days. Still cannot find anything that could be wrong. I even tried to remove sidebar and remove useless startup programs but to no avail. Thanx for the prompt response!!!! Perhaps someone else will be able to help further in this news group. Sorry I can't be of further help...
