I can see my XP machines, and my XP machines can see my Vista Mach

Good Lord, one must wonder if Microsoft wants us to network? I can see from
all the threads this isn't only my problem and I can see that oddly,
everyone's problems are similar but yet different.

HERES MINE:

I have 3 XP machines networked. I purchased a Dell Inspiron E1705, with
Vista Home Premium. I totally deleted the XP connections, in hopes of
getting the XP machines together with the VHP machine.

Result:
I can see from any XP machine all 4 computers. I can map on the vista to
see the XP machines. I can't access the XP machines from Vista, and I can't
access the Vista machine from the XP machines (Access is denied).

I have installed the LLTD on on 3 XP machines. I have Private network set
up, I have File Sharing set on so many folders my head is spinning. I set
Discovery on the VHP machine.

I have been through so many threads and taken the advice of so many people
with no luck.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I just have to add here, if so many are having such a rough time networking,
WHERE is Microsoft in all this? Shouldn't there be a patch or a freaking
update by now?

Kathi,

I have been playing with many different types of network environments latley
with Windows Vista and I have seen similar issues. I have been able to solve
every one of them. I would need some info on some of your settings to try and
help you out.

I need to know the current settings from Network and Sharing Center's
Sharing and Discovery items:
Network Discovery
File Sharing
Public Folder Sharing
Printer Sharing

Also, do you have any internet security or firewall software like McAfee
Internet Security or Norton Internet Security on the system?

I can see my XP machines, and my XP machines can see myVista Mach - KathiJohnsto

Sorry to jump in on this thread but I have had exactly the same issues as Kathi.
I have tried every combination of the Network and Sharing Center's Sharing and Discovery settings, but currently they are:
Network Discovery - On
File Sharing - On
Public Folder Sharing - On
Printer Sharing - On (printer sharing doesn't work either)
The Vista PC has Windows firewall and the XP PCs have Zone Alarm. I have tried uninstalling this to no avail.
I can ping the VHP PC from the XP PCs.
Any help gratefully received. Thanks

RE: I can see my XP machines, and my XP machines can see my Vista

Dear Agent Smith (I love that name by the way),
I kept on reading the threads, and the more and more I was lead to firewalls
and Norton Internet Security 2007. Only a few changes on my Vista machine
and and it worked. I went through "Personal Firewall" under "Web Browsing"
settings, and chose "configure" then under "Personal Firewall", I chose
"Advanced Settings" and The "General Rules" screen popped up. And unchecked
the "BLOCK" on inbound NetBios (after reading a few other threads). Also to
assure my network is safe I put my 4 computer's Mac Addys into my Router, so
nothing else can log into it. I am not entirely sure WHY it worked, but once
I restarted all 4 machines after making these settings, I was IN.

Thanks for you help. You were on the money looking at the Virus Protection.

I have read through many threads too, and I think your solution is closest to
my problem, but I need you to explain something better: Personal Firewall
WHERE?

RE: I can see my XP machines, and my XP machines can see my Vista

Sorry Fred. I went through Norton Internet Security 2007. I only needed to
do these settings on my VHP machine. The XP machines were fine.
