Network only works after physical disconnection and reconnection of LAN cable

    Hi,

When I boot up Vista my network shows 'Limited Connectivity'. If I
then physically disconnect then reconnect the LAN cable I can then
    access 'Local and Internet'.

If after bootup if I use Diagnose and Repair it has no effect.
I loaded drivers from the Intel website for the NIC (Intel 82566DC)
    which made no change.
I tried setting a static IP address instead of DHCP which had no
    effect.
I did a Dell Diagnostic on the card itself which it passed.

XP systems on the LAN connect at startup without problems.

Any further diagnostics to do, or ideas welcome!

    Thanks,

    Gids

I came across a suggestion while researching my own problem: make sure that
netBIOS over TCP/IP is active for TCP/IP v4

    HTH!

    Hi gids,

I am having same problems - have you sorted it, if so perhaps you can let me
    know what you have done.

    Thanks,
    Lor

    Thanks for the sugggestion
After applying the suggestion I think you make:
    Advanced TCP/IP Settings--> WINS --> Enable NetBIOS over TCP/IP
the computer now connects to 'Local Only' on startup and 'Local and Internet' after physical disconnection and reconnection.

    Any other suggestions welcome!

That's interesting to hear. Lor, Are you running a similar system Dell/Intel NIC --> Router? Or do you see the problem with a different setup?

    Thanks,
