| | Hard drive sharing Vista and Xp Hello, It's very difficult to share an hard drive partition with Vista and I need your help. I have a home network of 2 computers (2 differents users), one with Vista ultimate and one Xp Pro. I usually share some hard drive partitions on Xp and no problem. With Vista it's different. Public and users folders are correctly shared. But not hard drive. The network is correctly connected: same workgroup, same class of IP adress, sharing option enable (in network center), no firewall on each computer. To share the hard drive (no system) i did: start => computer => rightclick on the hard drive to share => advanced sharing (the share button is desactivate - it's ok) a simple name for the sharing hard drive, "share this folder" is checked i give full permission for "everybody" In security tab, full permissions for every user. unfortunatly, on the Xp computer, no permission to enter in the hard drive of the second computer with Vista (but no problem in the public folder) i read the microsoft tutorial, did the same action but no success. Any idea ? Thks for your Help (and Sorry for my english!) Erwan |

| | Re: Hard drive sharing Vista and Xp ok thanks for your reply but i try with same username on both computer => same problem, and if you have more computers it's not very a good solution for administration ! At last, i delete all existing shared hard drive on my computer and create them again. On Xp computer i can acces on first hard drive (full permission) but not the second ! very strange. why the first is ok and not the second ? The only difference i see is that the folders on the fisrt partition was created with XP (no modification -slave hard drive) contrary to the second partition, formatted and folders created on Vista (master hard drive). Other solution ? thks Erwan "Robert L [MVP - Networking]" wrote: > You may want to create the same username in the both computer. | | Re: Hard drive sharing Vista and Xp ok i find the solution: I just compare the deux proprieties hard drive in the share tab. On the "bad partition" there was no "everybody" user. I create it, give the good permissions and this is working !
