| Guest | Cannot identify network after Vista Upgrade Hi, I just upgraded a desktop to Vista Home Premium (from XP SP2), and now I can't get internet connectivity through my DSL (no password). I know the router and modem work with Vista, as I have a laptop connected to the same router that is running Ultimate and works fine. I also tested the ethernet cable to the desktop (using the laptop), and it had no issues. When I had upgraded the laptop, I had no issues with connectivity or settings. The LAN and Local Area Connection settings are the same for both the laptop and desktop. The Network and Sharing Center shows a connection to an "Unidentified Network (Public Network) and a red X to the Internet. Access: Local only, Connection: Local Area Connection. View Status: IPv4 Connectivity: Local, IPv6 Connectivity: Local. I have tried resetting the network adapter, automatically getting new IP settings, etc. My network connection details for IPV4 are all blank, except for the Autoconfiguration IPv4 and IPv4 Subnet Mask (255.255.0.0). Any advice would be helpful. Thanks! |

| Newbie Rep Power: 3 ![]() | Re: Cannot identify network after Vista Upgrade This issue took me a week of Googling and cursing Vista before I found the solution on one of the support forums that I found using Google. I can't find the forum where I found the solution to give them credit and give them thanks. Therefore, I am posting the solution here so others can find it using Google. Here is the Microsoft KB that fixes this problem: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/928233 |
