| Windows Vista™ Ultimate | There might be a solution for your DHCP problems that will allow you to use dhcp anytime anywhere... 1. click the start manu then in the search box below programs type regedit and open it 3. goto the following location HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip\Parameters\Interfaces\ (in this location there will be two or more keys with a bunch of random numbers and letters) 4. select one and look on the right side for a blue key Value name: DhcpConnForceBroadcastFlag 5. right click and modify the value 1 to the value 0 6. Click OK and exit This change will disable the "New" way vista attempts to get a DHCP address and revert it back to how XP used to. (most routers use this type) A good way to secure the laptop when your on the road is to change your location settings they are found in network and sharing center, open it and click customize (right side) and select Public. It stops other "untrusted" computers from being able to talk to your laptop with one easy setting, and you can allways change it back when you get home. Let me know if that registry setting works for you...cheers |
