| | Adding Vista Ultimate to Active Directory Domain (Server 2003) I am attempting to add my new laptop to our domain. I can connect to the internet no problem, ping the server by IP address and DNS name. I keep receiving an error that states" The following error has occurred attempting to join the domain "Our Domain Name": The network path was not found. I have all neccessary permissions to add computers to the domain and I just added another XP Pro machine to the AD with no problems. I have worked on this for 4 hours now with no success. I now have to ask the pros. Thanks, OSUBRYAN |

Name resolution on a domain, that's critical to contacting the domain controller, is different from a peer-peer workgroup. <http://nitecruzr.blogspot.com/2005/05/windows-xp-on-nt-domain.html> http://nitecruzr.blogspot.com/2005/0...nt-domain.html Look at "ipconfig /all" on the problem laptop, and on the existing computers. <http://nitecruzr.blogspot.com/2005/05/reading-ipconfig-and-diagnosing.html> http://nitecruzr.blogspot.com/2005/0...iagnosing.html And look at NetBT and personal firewalls. <http://nitecruzr.blogspot.com/2006/07/advanced-windows-networking-using.html> http://nitecruzr.blogspot.com/2006/0...ing-using.html -- Cheers, Chuck, MS-MVP [Windows - Networking] http://nitecruzr.blogspot.com/ Paranoia is not a problem, when it's a normal response from experience. | Vista x64 Enterprise | Re: Adding Vista Ultimate to Active Directory Domain (Server 2003) I don't know if this applies, but I had the same problem--couldn't get Vista to join a Server 2003 domain. Problem was very simple, but very stupid. I had unchecked (disabled) IPv6 on the interface adapter. I searched and searched, but couldn't find a definitive answer, but gather enough general info to try one thing: re-enabling IPv6. Now I don't even have IPv6 running on my 2003 server, but enabling it on my network adapter immediately corrected the problem and I was able to join the domain...very strange. |
