| Guest | Vista router problems Hello everyone. Since I installed Vista, I have to reset my router at least 3 times a day. I have 3 PC's and 1 notebook. 1 PC has Vista. If the Vista PC stays off everything is fine. But once I turn it on it seems to change the IP of the router. I have reinstalled the firmware a couple times for the router. Plus done reboots to it. I have everything set to default for the router. So the IP is the standard 192.168.1.1 But when things go wrong the IP (according to ZoneAlarm) changes. I have this problem with or without ZoneAlarm running. Also once the problem comes back I cannot access the router. I get my connection back by reseting the router. Thank you for any help |

| Guest | Re: Vista router problems I have a feeling that this router is unable to handle all the Vista UPnP traffic (looks like it from the IGD report you posted for Karl). Your router is pretty long in the tooth and the last firmware Linksys issued is from 2004 (in dog years that's in the hundreds..) You may want to consider purchasing a new router. The condition that you are seeing is typically what happens with the router software crashes or hangs. This causes the router to either hang, or reset itself, or behave in some undefined manner. Since the network stack has been changed for Vista, these routers are getting new inputs they may not have expected before. Since these routers are all computers, they can have the same problems that we do when we get inputs we don't expect (crashes, hangs, blue screens). The difference that since they're a closed black box we don't know what is going on. Can you tell me the make, model, hardware version and firmware version of your router? I really need all four items to uniquely identify the box. K.
