| | Will vpn solve network no web page access? Greetings - I have just purchased a computer with Windows Vista and am working on placing it in a home network. I have Windows XP, Service Pack 2 as a main computer(Dial-Up Connection). I have completed networking, using a network adaptor (8-pin phone cable). The Vista computer recognizes the XP Computer (lists it in the Network Sharing) and connects to the internet via the XP computer. Problem: The Vista computer is not able to access most web pages. I have only found two websites: Google and GameFaqs. Nothing else seems to be accessible. I went online to Microsoft's "How to Open a Port for Networking" (support.microsoft.com/kb/308127) and opened a port in the XP computer firewall, using 127.0.0.1 as an IP, Port 445 for Internal/External (TCP), rebooted computers. I checked "private" for network, checked TCP, winsocks, cleared my files. I am still not able to access web pages with the Vista computer. Will VPN solve this problem? I have been looking at http://www.onecomputerguy.com/networ...vpn_server.htm as well as logmein.com If I use VPN, do I need to contact my IP for port access? I am able to independently connect to the Internet with the Vista computer via dial-up and view all web pages. I would very much appreciate any help. Thank you - ddeen |
