| | Continual Networking Problems oI have several gripes about networking issues with Vista. I'll list some here in hopes that someone can help with any/all of them. -After my laptop comes out of sleep, networking support is often completely gone. I will get an IP address from my DHCP server, but I won't be able to access any resources. A ping to the gateway results in an error message that says General Failure. I must reboot to get it to work again. -When I need to change the IP address of my network adapter, I try to open the properties tab of my local network card. When I do, I always receive the following message " Some of the controls on this property sheet are disabled because one or more other Network property sheets are already open. To use these controls, close all these property sheets and then reopen this one." There are no other property sheets open. This message will appear anywhere from 4 to 17 times before it actually allows me to edit the properties of the network card. If I continue to retry, it will eventually work. -Wireless networks will not automatically reconnect to networks that don't broadcast their SSID. Yes, I select to reconnect them each time and it fails every time. I have to go in manually and redifine the SSID and keys every time I connect. Previous versions of Windows did not behave like this. Any feedback is welcome. |
