Vista Tutorial - Vista Laptop Can't Connect to Internet via Ethernet, WiFi, or Mode

Hello, I recently upgraded my laptop to Vista HP, and I haven't been able to
reach the Internet since. Have tried (Ethernet to Linksys WRT54G v4 router),
(Ethernet directly to Time Warner Cable modem), (WiFi to router), and even
(PPP modem connection). Sometimes I get an IP address from the DHCP server,
and sometimes it's Local access only, but even when I get an IP, I can't
reach the greater Internet. I can sometimes access my router's admin page via
192.168.1.1, but I can't get any further than that.

The router definitely works, as my parents' Vista HB laptop (with the exact
same wireless card as mine) connects to it just fine. I was shocked when even
the PPP modem connection didn't work.

When I try ipconfig /release followed by ipconfig /renew, the renew usually
encounters one or more errors including "unable to contact your DHCP server.
Request has timed out."

I tried implementing the changes suggested in KB 928233, but no improvement
noticed. I'm not sure I got the right adapters though, as I couldn't tell
what was what (I tried to use the autoconfig IPv4 address as an identifying
value).

can't get to the greater Internet.

You should not use the same IP range in a multihomed computer. This link may help,

Thanks, Bob. I followed the link, and I don't think I quite understood
everything nor how to adjust my IP range(s) to solve the problem. In
addition, why would the offending IP range (I assume 192.168.x.x) cause the
direct PPP connection via modem to not allow connection to the Internet
either? Same question for when I connect via Ethernet directly to the cable
modem and get an IP of 72.225.230.x (belonging to Time Warner Cable)?
