| | Setting up Docked and Undocked Profiles in Vista Hi have an interesting situation... I need to set up Vista Ultimate so that when the Laptop is "Docked" it uses the Wired connection with a static IP address, and when "Undocked" it uses the Wireless conenction through DHCP. I work for a software firm, so it is manditory that this happens, as the users that require this type of connection only have access to a "specific service" on the wired LAN, and have to go into meetings with their Laptops on the wireless connection. Needless to say this has to occur with no user intervention. Both the Wired and Wireless connections have the same default gateway, and when I bring up the connection status of both connections and perform a "ping -t -l 4096 192.168.1.1" command, I can see the packets incrementing on the wired connection whilst docked, but I also see the wireless connection's packets incrementing, only at a different rate. Also undocked and docked I have internet access, just not absolutely sure whether when docked I am using the wired connection all the time. My question is: "Is there anything else I need to do to be able to use a different IP address on the Laptops for the Wired and Wireless connections, and will Vista take care of this automatically?" Upgrading switches; routers; and wireless equipment is not an option. I have to achieve this through the Magic of Vista, I was able to do this in XP. |
