backup and restore center WIN VISTA (WIN XP HOME shared folder iss

I have created a shared folder on my WIN XP HOME computer. From my WIN VISTA
computer I am able to create delete modify save, basically I have full access
to the folder. But when I run the backup utility and select that network
drive it prompts me for a user name and password. I don’t have a user name
and password set up on that folder and don’t even think WIN XP HOME has that
feature. I tried the user name and password I use for my WIN XP HOME machine
but it doesn’t except that one. Any ideas?

How do you enter the user name and password? Try typing it in
COMPUTERNAME\USERNAME
Also, is the account on the XP machine an administrator account?

RE: backup and restore center WIN VISTA (WIN XP HOME shared folder

I have the same problem except my remote computer is XP Pro. I have full
permissions to the folder I intend on backing up to, I have even used the
administrator login when asked for a user name and password. It does a quick
little check then a window pops up with this:
“The network share could not be accessed for the following reason:

You need Full Control permission for the network share. Make the user a
co-owner of the share, with Full Control. The network share cannot be a
computer running Windows XP Home. (0x8100002a)

Please ensure that the network location is valid.”
