Another folder sharing question

    Another folder sharing question

Bottom line: how can I convince Vista to share a folder. Here's my status:

Vista hardwired to XP via router. Both workgroups are the same, and
firewalls are MS. Both computers CAN see each other and XP DOES share ALL
its shared folders from Vista, but XP can't get Vista to share its "shared"
folders, except the Public folder. The printer works well for both.

I want to share a folder named "Z" on Vista to the XP. I right-click the
folder, mark it for sharing, and do all the right things but Vista refuses
to share it to the XP. The XP can "see" the folder but can't access it. Do
you think that my problem is a matter of giving "permission" in some way???
I've tried to give permission, but nothing works. When I give Vista my user
name for the XP it says it can't find it!

This is a long struggle, but I'm taking it one step at a time for now. Help
    please! Thanks.

Open the Network and Sharing Center from control panel. Is your connection
set to Private or Public. If it is Public switch it to Private. Also, what
are the settings underneath set to, such as "Public Folder Sharing"

It is set to Private. Public Folder sharing is set to ON. Network
Discovery is set to ON. Password Protected Sharing is set to OFF. File
Sharing is set to ON and all is set to what I would consider necessary to
    share Vista folders.

Any ideas? This is crazy, and note: my Vista system works perfectly! No
problems of any kind, except for the file sharing thing. Of course, I can
simply MOVE my files to the Public Folder and share them with the XP, but it
    should be easier!

    Any other comments? Thanks.

Your settings should work. When you share the folder right click and select
share. Then grant an account on the computer you are sharing from. You can
create a regular user account for this purpose if you want. On the computer
you want to access the share type in \\NameOfComputerSharing into internet
explorer. You might be prompted for a username and password. Enter it
NameOfComputerSharing\UserAccountWithPermissions and then the password. What
happens why you try that way?

    Done that ages ago.

Bear with me for a few days!

Are you saying that I should make all necessary sharing actions on the VISTA
computer (the one that my XP can't access) only? Is there anything I should
do on my XP system (the one that "sees" the VISTA shared folders but can't
    access)?

By the way, I simply cannot make Vista recognize my XP computer and its user
name from the Network and Sharing Center, even though it can "see" the XP
    and all its folders!

More later -- will be back Monday. This is crazy!
