| | Running backups from Vista I have a main (VISTA) and secondary PC (XP PRO) on my home network. The secondary PC is used for non-essential work and for holding backups. When I run Backup on Vista and map to the drive on the secondary PC, Vista insists I enter a user and password, however, if I access the same folder using Windows Explorer, I do not get promted for a username and password. Is there anyway I can switch of the prompt to allow my backups to run unencumbered ? I have switched Network security to private, I have switched off password protection. |

| | Re: Running backups from Vista Hello Gadallma, Thank you for using the newsgroup! It may seem frustrating that while you already have access to the share that you must supply a username and password using the backup application in Windows Vista. If you haven't already, I suggest you read this which explains this in a little more detail: http://blogs.technet.com/filecab/arc...27/458871.aspx -- Eric Cross Microsoft MVP (Windows Networking) http://mvp.support.microsoft.com "Gadallma" <Gadallma@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:CE1836B0-0D4F-4B91-9D2B-BD3D428FB9AB@microsoft.com... >I have a main (VISTA) and secondary PC (XP PRO) on my home network. | | Re: Running backups from Vista Hi Eric I did all that was required, but I am unable to find out how to set my new backup user account to be the co-owner of the share on my XP PC, as required by the Vista PC. Can you advise please. Thanks and regards Gareth "Eric Cross [MVP]" wrote: > Hello Gadallma, > > Thank you for using the newsgroup! | | Re: Running backups from Vista Hi Eric Still no joy, I have managed to change the owner to the backup user and the message still appears. The user I have created is "Backup", it does have full control and is now the owner of the share I am trying to write to. I can access the share at any time using Windows Explorer from the Vista PC. If I cannot make this work, I will need to go and purchase an external drive, I as I run my company finances from the Vista PC, and cannot operate without backing up my data.
