Wireless Network Problem

I bought a new HP Pavillion dv6000 with Windows Vista Home Premium about 2
months ago, and everything worked fine until today - I can not get on the
internet through the wireless network at my house anymore. There is one other
laptop (running XP) and a desktop (XP as well) on the network as well, and
they still work fine - I can access the internet and everything with them.
Has anybody seen this problem before? I have tried everything I can think of
to fix it, could it be a virus, or something wrong with the integrated
wireless card? Please help!

The first thing to do is to look carefully at the machine and make sure
the wireless is on. The HP laptops I've seen lately have a small slider
switch on the front or side of the machine that turns the wireless on
and off.

You must work for technical support for HP.

Vista has a chronic problem losing connection with DNS and, occasionally,
DHCP servers. This will allow it local access only, despite there being an
internet connection through the modem and/or router that is accessible by XP
machines.

There are variety of fixes around that work, more or less, though I still
have problems with this from time to time. Removing IPv6 helps, and there
are some registry tweaks I've used which, unfortunately, I don't recall but
are documented in a number of places on the internet. Sometimes, the only
fix is to manually delete the wireless modem from Device Manager and let the
OS re-install it.

And, yes, when this happens, my wireless modem is on. Can I speak to Tier 2
support now?

No, I don't work for HP tech support. I just know from experience that
it is good to always start with the simplest thing; i.e., is it plugged
in/turned on? Of course there are many reasons for connectivity issues
and Vista isn't particularly ready for prime time with its drivers and
networking. But I thought the first thing to do was to ask the OP the
easy question, particularly because I've seen first-hand on these new HP
laptops how easy it is to accidentally move the wireless slider to OFF.
