Vista - Can't Access local Network

OK, here's the setup:

Two laptops running on Vista Home premium, connected to the internet and
eachother by a router/Switch.

All settings from the firewall are correct, since I can see the folders I
shared on either PC.

The thing is, though, that once I click on the shared folders I get the
error message " \\machine\shared_folder is not accessible. You probably don't
have the proper credentials top access this networksource. Contact the
administrator to find out if you have the right credentials. ACCESS DENIED"

Now, what did I do wrong and how can I correct this problem?

Sure, I have to grant access to the user on the other computer, but how??

Please help!

Open the properties of the shared folder and check the Security tab. Have you assign permission there? Please post back.

No, still a "no go" :-(

The problem is, I think, that I cannot choose a different "location" (e.g.
my computers' name is "Toshiba" and the other computer is "HP". NOw, when I
try to ad a different user to access the files on my computer, I can not
choose "HP" as a location.

To tell you the truth, I am getting pretty fed up with all the restrictions
in Vista. Things used to work fine in XP. Maybe I should just go back to the
old OS?

OK, here's "A" solution I found in this community, although imho not a very
decent one.

I just added the "guest" account to the list of people who are allowed to
share the folder and files and gave this account all necessary permissions
and now I can access the shared folders.

So much for Vista increased security, or am I wrong? For now, it's the only
solution that works.

Since enabling guest works, that approve this is security issue. However, we don't recommended to enable guest account, so that you may want to create same username and password on the both computers. This link may help,

Vista common issue - can see but ...1. Enable guest account that is not recommended for the security reason. 2. Assign everyone full rights in the Security tab that is no secure too. ...

Thanks again, Robert, for your answer.

Creating the same usernames and passwords on both machines, in my case,
didn't do the trick either, but I will let this case rest now.

Since there are still a pile of other compatibility and other issues I still
have to attend to, I decided to "downgrade" both machines to windows XPSP2.
(Mind you: both machines, one Toshiba and one HP, were originally delivered
with Vista Home Premium; both manufacturers acknowledge the issues, but have
no solution yet) and wait until the first SP of Vista gets released.

As for sharing files: I bought a NAS (one that actually works under Vista)
and installed it in the network.
