UPnP - What do I do now???

I'm having typical "local only" internet results. I'm "online" but way, way
more slowly than I like. Microsoft says "basic" connectivity shouldn't be an
issue. Well, it is. Anyway, this is the result of my UPnP test:

Test 5 - UPnP Support Test Not supported

Result:
The operating system is Windows Vista
The firewall is disabled
UPnP is enabled by the firewall
UPnP services are running
UPnP Discovery is enabled
Detecting Internet Gateway Devices on the network
0 IGD(s) found
Failed to find any Internet Gateway Devices

What does this mean I need to do to fix this problem? I want to be online,
connected to the web, with the tiny little globe on in my icon tray showing
I'm online.

Any help would be more than appreciated.

Thanks!

Re: UPnP - What do I do now???

How are you connected to the Internet? What router (model, hardware
revision, firmware version)?

What network adapter?

Please post the output of ipconfig /all. to do this:

start
programs
accessories
command prompt (right click and select run as administrator and
acknowledge the prompt)

ipconfig /all [enter]

click the icon on the menubar on the left and then edit, select all
(it will turn white)

click the icon in the menubar again then edit, copy

this copies to the clipboard.

Re: UPnP - What do I do now???

that is one part of the info - you've got a wireless a/b/g/draft N
adapter

also needed to know more about the wireless router you are using
manufacturer
hardware rev
firmware rev

the UPnP test result you reported would not have an impact on
speed/connectivity per se. it could be a symptom of old firmware
that could be upgraded.

so with the details in your router, we could check to see if there
is newer firmware, etc.

what type of wireless security are you using?

Re: UPnP - What do I do now???

Again, thank you for your help.

I know that I use a netgear router. How would I locate the
hardware/firmware information?

For wireless security I use CA.

Re: UPnP - What do I do now???

is this an all in one device provided by Road Runner? or did you buy
it?

is there a sticker on the bottom with a model number, etc.?

you should be able to log on to the router admin pages by opening a
browser and typing in

http://192.168.0.1

it's likely that the username is netgear or admin
and that the password is blank(empty) or password

who set this router up for you?

CA is most likely an AV or AV/firewall.
Are you using WPA2, WPA, or WEP (WEP is not secure at all and not
safe).

Re: UPnP - What do I do now???

The router is an all in one device provided by roadrunner.

Netgear Wireless Cable Modem Gateway model CG814WG. I was able to access
the router settings using the link you provided but got the name and model
from the bottom of the router itself.

The router was configured by the rr technician. As a note, we've used it
wirelessly since June 2005 without any trouble. All other laptops run on XP
but mine is on Vista.

Yes, CA is an AV/Firewall. And we are using WEP which my husband and I
understood to be the most secure setting available. If is not, what do you
recommend?

Re: UPnP - What do I do now???

WEP has not been truly safe for a few years. You need at least WPA
(or WPA2).

I don't know if your hardware is V1 or V2. Time Warner has to apply
firmware upgrades to these devices (if they have one available).

You can also try the latest Intel driver for the wireless card:
