The first thing with Vista is setting the Network Location Type to Private ("enabled private"??). But Vista has other peculiarities. <http://nitecruzr.blogspot.com/2006/12/windows-xp-and-vista-on-lan-together.html> http://nitecruzr.blogspot.com/2006/1...-together.html And make sure that there are no other firewalls, improperly configured. And make sure that NetBT is consistently enabled. <http://nitecruzr.blogspot.com/2006/07/advanced-windows-networking-using.html> http://nitecruzr.blogspot.com/2006/0...ing-using.html If no help yet, look at logs from "browstat status", "ipconfig /all", "net config server", and "net config workstation", from each computer, and diagnose the problem. Read this article, and linked articles, and follow instructions precisely (download browstat!): <http://nitecruzr.blogspot.com/2005/05/troubleshooting-network-neighborhood.html#AskingForHelp> http://nitecruzr.blogspot.com/2005/0...#AskingForHelp -- Cheers, Chuck, MS-MVP 2005-2007 [Windows - Networking] http://nitecruzr.blogspot.com/ Paranoia is not a problem, when it's a normal response from experience. | | RE: vista laptop onto bt home hub running on xp http://www.microsoft.com/technet/net.../vista_fp.mspx The above link should help. 1. Make sure that ALL computers have the same worgroup name. XP had MSHOME, and Vista has WORKGROUP by default. Change one of them! 2. Invista Network Sharing: Network discovery ON 2. " " " : Password Protect OFF 3. : File Sharing ON 3. to hook up your XP printer from Vista, in Vista's net sharing, click on "ADd Network Device", and follow the prompts to find the XP's printer.
