New Vista laptop and old XP-Pro desktop

I just purchased a new lapton and need to connect to a shared folder
on my old desktop to pull some files over.

Here's the current setup:
I've had this running for a few years:
Old desktop - IBM Aptiva running Win XP-Pro
Linksys broadband wireless router w/ 4-port switch

Just added:
New HP Pavillion dv6000 running Vista Home Premium

Both computers are connected to the switch - no wireless connections
at this point

When I try to map a network drive on the Vista machine (from Vista to
XP), I can browse the network and see the XP machine, its two shared
folders and the shared printer. But when I select either of the
shared folders or printer there is a delay of serveral seconds (about
10 to 15?) followed by a pop-up:

<-- begin pop-up quote -->
\\<name of XP machine here>\<share name here> is not accessible. you
might not have permission to sue this networkresource. Contact the
administrator of this server to find out if you have access
permissions.

Not enough server storage is available to process this command
<-- end pop-up quote -->

If I try to map from the XP machine, browsing the network reveals two
workgroups:

+Entire Network
++Microsoft Windows Network
+++MSHOME
++++<name of XP machine here>
+++Workgroup
++++<name of VIsta machine here>

Double clicking on the name of the Vista machine returns nothing --
the OK button remains greyed out.

Firewalls? The router is running its firewall, Norton Protection
Center on the XP is running its inbound firewall, and the Windows
firewall on the XP is on. Hmm. Firewall overkill?

The Vista machine is right out of the box, also has Norton Internet
Security firewall on, Windows Firewall is off.

Suggestions?

Re: New Vista laptop and old XP-Pro desktop

No joy. Here's what I found ...

http;//www.chicagotech.net/vista/vistasharing.htm -- redirected to a
Wikipedia page ... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HTTP

On the XP machine (the one I am trying to map *to*), going to the
shared folder and selecting "shareing and security -- sharing", I see
the following:
- share this folder on the network -- checked
- allow network users to change my files - checked
- Windows firewall is configured to allow this folder to be shared
with other computers on the network.

Also, on the XP machine, I created a new account with the same name
and password as the user (non-admin) account I am working from on the
Vista laptop.
