| | Please fix this inexcusable bug in Offline File Sharing (Vista) This is a very frustrating bug in Windows Vista Business Offline File Sharing capability. MSFT, you should be ashamed of yourselves for letting this through QA. If you accidentally select a folder for Offline File Sharing which has sub-folders that you don't own or have permission to read/write, Offline File sharing will happily add these sub-folders to the "sync" list. The next time you try to sync, you will get a million errors saying these folders cannot be sync'ed because you don't have permission. Ok, so far, not that bad. You realize you made a mistake a selected folders that you shouldn't have. So, you go back to these sub-folders, right click, try to de-select Offline File Sharing for these folders. Guess what? Catch 22. *Now* offile file sharing realizes you don't own these folders and tells you you cannot turn off Offline File sharing because you don't have permission to access these folders. So, now you're screwed. You can never turn off offline file sharing on these subfolders, and because you don't own them, you will perpetually get errors every time you try to sync. The problem, I assume, is that Offline File sharing should have realized the first time you tried to add these subfolders to the sync list that you don't own them, and thus, it should have refused to allow you (or allow itself) to add them to the Offline File sharing sync list in the first place. Please, MSFT, fix this. This is pretty terrible. And, it has essentially forced me to completely disable Offline File Sharing on my Vista machine. Unfortunately, because it was a feature I heavily relied upon on WinXP (and which worked pretty flawlessly for me in WinXP, too). ---------------- This post is a suggestion for Microsoft, and Microsoft responds to the suggestions with the most votes.
