Vista won't connect to home network

I have a new Dell Inspirion 1520 w/Vista Home Premium. It "sees" my home
networks and indicates a strong signal. However, it can't connect to the
network. The wireless router is a D-Link 614+ and I have an older computer
that connects to it wirelessly fine. I have tried removing security (which
it again recognizes in Vista), but it still won't connect. Any ideas?

Do you have correct IP address? Post the result of ipconfig /all may help.

    Have you tried the following:
    In Vista Networking and Sharing:
    1 Network Discovery ON
    2 File Sharing ON
    3 Public Folder Sharing ON
    4 Password Protected OFF
5 and the Network should be set to “Private”

And have you made sure that the workgroup names are the same on XP and Vista.
By default XP is MSHOME and Vista is WORKGROUP; they should be the same.
Also "Shared Docs" in XP is called "Public Folder" in Vista

There are known issues which affect computers running Vista, and their ability
to connect to some NAT routers. Other issues affect network connectivity in
    general.

In addition to other advice, if you're using WiFi, get the most current WiFi
drivers from the vendor. And get all available Vista updates from Microsoft.

Thanks. So it sounds like my best bet is to try to upgrade the router and
see if that does the trick, huh?

It doesn't get an IP address. It says Device disabled (or something to that
    effect).

If you have an old router, considering how cheap new ones are, especially in
comparison with the cost of Vista, it makes sense to upgrade.

    http://nitecruzr.blogspot.com/2007/0...d-routers.html

But check the software upgrades first - drivers from the vendor, and Vista
    upgrades from Microsoft.
