Local Access only (with a static IP)

Hi all

I am having problems with my network, under XP no issues at all, I have
upgraded two of the 3 PC's to Vista Business, if I use Automatically Obtain
IP adress I can get the internet no probs, as soon as I go to static Ip
address under TCP/IP 4 (TCP/IP6 Disabled) all I can get is local access only.
The XP PC on the same network in unaffected and I can access the Vista PC's
but no Vista to the XP PC.

I am using a Edimax AR-7084A, I have looked for updated firmware but there
ain't any. Any ideas anyone, this is starting to do my head in.

Did you manually set the DNS servers? If you didn't, do so. You can get
the DNS servers from your ISP's website.

Re: Local Access only (with a static IP)

Thanks for the info, I have already set the DNS manually, I just find it
really odd. The XP PC works like a dream, so I presume the router is set up
ok. If I try an old PC with xp on with the same settings that works fine too,
but no matter what I try with the Vista PC;s they just won't access the
network unless I obtian the IP address automatically. As soon as I set the IP
address it loses th net straight away.

My guess is that your router isn't really compatible with Vista. I'm not
familiar with the router that you're using but if at all possible you
could try swapping it out for one that is known to work with Vista. The
big brands (Cisco-formerly-known-as-Linksys, Netgear, etc.) all do.

I'm sorry I wasn't able to solve your problem.

Ian,

Maybe there's a clue in the ipconfig logs. Why not publish here "ipconfig
/all", from the problem computer when it works and when it doesn't, and from the
XP computer for comparison? Maybe we can spot a problem.
