Vista - Windows Vista network problem with Win2k Server

Hi,

I have a small LAN that with four PC's, each running a different version of
Windows, which I have listed below:

Windows 2000 Pro
Windows XP Pro
Windows Vista
Windows 2000 Server

I do not have a domain, so I have placed all of these PC's in the same
workgroup. I have assigned them all static IP addresses in the range
192.168.3.x with subnet mask 255.255.255.0.

1. From every one of these PC's, I can see all four PC's if I browse to my
workgroup through Network Neighborhood / My Network places.

2. From the WinXP and Win2k Pro PC's, double-clicking on the icon for the
Vista PC brings up a logon dialog box and gives me access if I enter a valid
username and password.

3. From the Win2k Server PC, double-clicking on the icon for the Vista PC
brings up a dialog box saying that the Vista PC "is not accessible - the
network path is not found". I have no problem, however, accessing shares on
the XP or the 2k Pro PC's.

4. From the WinXP, and Win2k Pro PC's, double-clicking on the icon for the
Win2k Server PC brings up a logon dialog box and gives me access if I enter a
valid username and password.

5. From the Vista PC, double-clicking on the icon for the Win2k Server PC
brings up a dialog box saying that the Win2k Server PC "is not accessible -
the network path is not found". I have no problem, however, accessing shares
on the XP or the 2k Pro PC's. i am also able to map a drive letter to a
share on the Win2k Server PC, but I can only do this by IP address, not by
name.

If anyone could tell give me a reason why I am having this trouble between
the Vista and Windows 2000 PC's, I would really appreciate it.

Sounds like name resolution or master browser issue. use browstat to check troubleshoot. Or these links may help,

Hi Bob,

Thanks for your response. It turns out that my problem was caused by Norton
Internet Security on the Vista PC. I added the IP address of the Win2k
Server PC to the NIS trusted sites. After doing this, I have no problem
accessessing shares between these two PC's.
